The Promised Neverland, also known as Yakusuko no Neverland, is a Japanese dark fantasy thriller anime series. It is one of the adaptations of Kaiu Shirai’s manga series of the same name. The show made its debut back in 2019 and ran for twelve episodes. Its second installment only ran for eleven episodes that premiered on January 8, 2021. Whereas, it aired its final episode on March 26, 2021.
Yakusoku no Neverland Season 2 Anime Review!
The fans were anticipating the anime’s second installment with a lot of enthusiasm. They thought it would feature one of the best arcs of the manga series. However, it completely skipped all the important arcs that develop the characters of some of the protagonists, like Norman and Emma. The viewers felt kind of betrayed as they had very high hopes for this, especially after its inaugural installment.
Not only the production studio skipped some important chapters, but the pacing of The Promised Neverland’s second season was also very rushed. Due to the show’s bad pacing, the characters didn’t go through any development. Hence, that made its bad ending even worse. Yakusoku no Neverland has all the potential to be a masterpiece, but the terribly paced sequel spoiled everything. Overall, it was very sloppy and not half as good as its first season.
Is There Enough Source Material?
The bad news is that the recent installment exhausted all the source material of its manga series. Therefore, now CloverWorks has nothing to adapt in The Promised Neverland Season 3. The author published the last chapter of the manga series back in 2020. It ended on the 20th volume. Yakusoku no Neverland concluded on the fifth volume. But its second season used the last 15 books, and that too only in eleven episodes. They used the content worth three installments in the anime’s second run only.
The Promised Neverland Season 3: Renewal Status!
The debut season of the anime made it to the list of the best anime series of the decade. It received a tremendous response and has an impressive score of 8.62 on MyAnimeList as well. As compared to it, the second season only received negative reviews and has a score of 5.64 on the same platform. Everything went downfall after the first run of the anime. Firstly, the fans have to wait for some extra time to see the sequel. And when it arrived, it crushed everyone’s expectations.
Moreover, it didn’t leave any scope for The Promised Neverland Season 3. The makers confirmed that the 23rd episode of this show was its series finale. It already featured the conclusion of the manga series with a little modification. Therefore, now it’s certain that the anime series will not return. But since the anime is very popular, there is a possibility the fans might see it reboot.
The Promised Neverland Season 3: Release Date
As we mentioned above, there is no scope for The Promised Neverland Season 3. So, it is impossible to predict its release date. But if any other studio shows their interest and reboots this show, it might premiere in the next two or three years.
