Attack on Titan

Kodansha Comic Books

Over the years, many mangas have set various world records. While some were for the ‘longest-running manga,’ others were in terms of sale. But this world record is something else. The Attack on Titan manga publisher, Kodansha, has made a world record that the internet cannot stop talking about. So, what is this record? Let’s find out.

The Japanese magazine publisher was trying to make this record for the past few months. It is only now that the company has successfully registered its name in the Guinness Book of World Records. The record was set for the “Largest comic book published.” Let’s see how Kodansha did this!

Attack on Titan: Largest Comic Book Ever Published!

Ever since March, Kodansha Comics were working on a project to print a human-size magazine to break the world record for the largest magazine to have ever come out. Since the biggest name in Kodansha Comics is Attack on Titan, the company decides to print the first two chapters of this manga. So, after several attempts, the company was able to create a live-size manga for Attack on Titan. Check out the pictures here.

Finally, the attempt was recognized by the Guinness World Records. Hence, Hajime Isayama’s Attack on Titan becomes the largest comic book ever published. The magazine is one meter in length and 70 cm in width. Moreover, this humongous booklet weighs 13.7kg. This is almost 36 times the weight of a regular manga. Moreover, not only does this giant manga sets a world record, but the limited edition also gave huge profits to Kodansha.

More About The Record!

Yes, the giant magazine is not just for a record. You can actually buy the human-size manga. The magazine went up for sale back in March at a rate of 165,000 yen which is roughly about $1,514. What took the Guinness World Records so long to recognize this project was the clause stating that the record will be set only when the manga sells 100 copies. Surprisingly, the limited edition magazine was out of stock in just 2 minutes of its sale.

Previously, the record for the largest manga was over to Panini Brasil’s Turma da Mônica by Mauricio de Sousa Produções. This magazine was almost seven feet in height. Since the final season of Attack on Titan is around the corner, this was another ploy to keep the relevance of the show.

Attack on Titan: Editor Thanks The Team

When the editor of the manga was asked about this attempt, he said that he was very nervous initially. Shintaro Kawakubo shares that both the price and number of copies were too high for regular manga readers. However, when the magazine went up for sale, the response came like a shock. Shintaro also thanked the team-major Tosho Insatsu, who made this record possible.
