The entire time in the fight made him realize that he might not get what he had come for. Thus, escaping was the only way left. Plus, fighting the best warriors of the Hidden Leaf Village was something that Code could not bear on his own. Now, Naruto is going to chase him to his doom. Further, the previous chapter left a subtle hint about Shikimaru’s involvement in the whole thing.
When Eida came to question Amado about Code’s situation, the next panel just cut to Shikamaru. This points out that the two of them might be behind the entire raid. Boruto Chapter 68 will give us the answer to whether Shikamaru was working for Code all this while.

Chapter 67 of Boruto opened with Naruto running straight for his son. Here, Code could not figure out how Kawaki had managed to get back his karma after his attack. In a head-on attack, even Code’s claw was shrunk by Kawaki’s Sukunahikona. Meanwhile, Shikamaru went for Naruto to check what had happened to Boruto. Kawaki tells Code that he does not even know his purpose. Thus, without a doubt, they would get the same treatment as the people who came to hurt Lord Hokage.
Kawaki used the same technique to get Daemon into the battlefield. Here, Shikamaru warned Naruto that having Kawak around was not safe for them. Even if he could fight Code on his own, he still remained a threat. The climactic part of the chapter dealt with the internal dialogue between Boruto and Monoshiki. In the end, Code had managed to escape the place, leaving everyone stranded.
