Seventeen years after the original Cardcaptor Sakura, Madhouse brought back some of our fondest memories. The return of the popular anime stirred up millions of otakus from around the globe. However, like before, the creators have left us hanging with an incomplete story. Since 2018, fans have shown their outrage and are demanding the renewal of Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card Season 2. Cardcaptor Sakura was originally a manga series written and illustrated by the manga group Clamp. Madhouse adapted the 1996 manga into an anime that ruled young viewers’ hearts during its run from April 1998 to March 2000. Years later, in 2016, the Clamp manga group resumed their popular story with a sequel manga called Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card. Like previously, the studio adapted the sequel manga into an anime in 2018.
Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card Season 2: Renewal Updates
The Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card anime series ran for 22 episodes between January 2018 to June 2018. Its Blu-Ray sales were split into two parts. This created confusion among fans as they considered the second part as Season 2. Thereby, Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card Season 3 began trending. However, the 2018 anime consists of only one season, and the second installment is yet to get a renewal.
Madhouse has not confirmed whether the popular anime will return to the screens or not. However, fans of the franchise have started to sign petitions for the renewal of Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card Season 2. Viewers argue that the studio should not leave the fans hanging at an incomplete ending, yet again. The same happened twenty years ago with Cardcaptor Sakuna Season 3. Now that they see some hope for the anime, its creators must continue the story and give it a deserving end.
Is There Any Hope For Its Return?
Well, even though the second season is not renewed, there is still hope for its return. The first installment (2018) was immensely popular amongst fans of the original show and new viewers alike. Besides, it was a commercial success for the producers. Hence, considering the high demand, Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card Season 2 can become equally profitable (if not more).
On the other hand, one of the main reasons why the anime is not renewed yet is the lack of source material. The Clear Card manga series has released eight volumes, whereas Volume 9 will launch on October 13, 2020. Since the first season covered five volumes of the manga, Madhouse needs one more volume to start Season 2 productions. As per the pattern, Volume 10 is likely to come out sometime around early-2021.
Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card Season 2: Release Date
Madhouse might renew the second season once there is enough source material to adapt. Hence, the productions are likely to start as soon as Volume 10 (of Clear Card manga) comes out. If that happens, new episodes of Clear Card Season 2 will premiere by early to mid-2021. We will update this section once the official release date is announced.
