A recently discovered fossil of a dinosaur in China is now officially named after the popular Doraemon character Nobita. All of the internet is brimming with memes and threads after reading about this event. A goldfish dinosaur fossil that was discovered in China in July 2020 finally has a name. The China University of Geosciences reveals the name to be Eubrontes Nobitai. So, without any further ado, here is all you need to know about the origin of this fossil name!
Why Name After Nobita?
Much like many, you must also be wondering as to why would an institute as esteemed as the CUG name a fossil after a children’s anime. Well, the same question was asked to the director of the university. In reply, Xing Lida says that he is personally a big fan of the anime Doraemon. He says that he especially loves the dinosaur films of the Doraemon franchise. Moreover, the recent movie, Nobita’s New Dinosaur (2020) was a beautiful piece of filming.
Thus, the director says that he finds it more than fair to name the new fossil after the special anime character, Nobita. Well, the anime community is more than happy and excited after finding out about this etymology fact. Hence, you have one more perk of being an otaku that is the knowledge of Geosciences.
More About The Fossil
The fossil came out of the southwest part of Sichuan, a place of Geological importance in China. Moreover, studies suggest that the Nobita fossil is a mere foot of the dinosaur. The footprints are about 50 centimeters in the distance. According to Kyodo News, the size of a single foot is around 30 centimeters. The fossil is currently at the Tokyo National Museum for public display. One can easily visit Tokyo and witness the foot fossil themselves.
