Fairy Tail anime series said goodbye to the fans back in September 2019. Two years after the halt, the franchise has announced a renewal. 100 Year Quest is the sequel manga to the original series. The text is written and illustrated by Hiro Mashima and Atsuo Ueda. Moreover, the nine-volume manga began serialization in July 2018. Now, the anime version is awaited by the fans.

Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest: Production Status

The live-stream event by Hiro Mashima revealed many new details about the future of the Fairy Tail franchise. For a start, the author announced that the Fairy Tail anime universe would not come to a halt after the ninth season. In fact, the series would continue its television venture with the Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest anime adaptation. The author also mentioned that the new venture is already under production. This confirms the fact the new series is not just an on-paper venture. So, after September 2019, Kodansha has been resting the animation work for the Fairy Tail franchise.

However, it is not clear if A-1 Studio would continue to work with Kodansha or not. The number of episodes and seasons have also not been announced just yet. Thus, it is safe to say that Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest is in the early stages of production. Besides, the scripting, character designs, and castings are yet to be done.

Plot Details

According to the official synopsis of the manga, the story follows Natsu one year after the death of Zeref and Acnologia. The young explorer boy takes his team of rogue adventurers on a hundred-year journey into the darkness of the forests. Their quest takes them to the northern continent of Guiltina, where a new danger comes their way. Natsu and his team learn that they must cage the Five Dragon Gods in order to escape the continent. Thus, the team settles in Guiltina and continues to fight the dragons and creatures of this place.

The new series will also feature a new member in the Fairy Tail guild. Touka is a resident of Guiltina. It turns out Netsu’s new friend is under the control of a witch who wishes to use the powers of the Dragon Gods for herself. Hence, Netsu not only has to seal the Gods but also fight the witch who is posing as an obstacle in their way. The 100 Years Quest manga has serialized nine volumes so far. This roughly translates into forty-fifty episodes, if judged on Fairy Tail standards. In a few weeks, things will become clearer.
