Jake Adelstein wrote a memoir, “Tokyo Vice: An American Reporter on the Police Beat in Japan,” in 2009. Random House and Pantheon Books published it years later. Later in 2013, a film was announced with Daniel Radcliffe as Adelstein. Anthony Mandler was going to be the director of the film. John Lesher and Adam Kassan were going to be the film producers. However, production didn’t happen. In 2019, they changed the project to a live-action film series. This promises to give fans more content to watch. Hence, they have been eagerly waiting for a release ever since.

The Tokyo Vice Live-Action Series staff made an announcement finalizing the cast for the series. Ansel Elgort will be taking on the role of the lead character Adelstein. Ken Watanabe will be playing as a cop, Katagiri. Rinko Kikuchi Kikuchi has bagged the role of Eimi Maruyama, who was Jake’s senior reporter. Hideaki Ito will be in the role of Miyamoto. Sho Kasamatsu will be acting as Sato, a yakuza member. Plus, Tomohisa Yamashita will be in the role of Akira. The other cast members are Rachel Keller, Ayumi Tanida, and Yuka Itaya. Fans are excited because of Ansel Ergot’s presence in the series. The actor has previously worked as the leading actor for, “The Fault in Our Stars.” His huge fanbase is in full support of the series. They are excited to see him do a different role.

Moreover, Ella Rumpf, Shun Sugata, Masato Hagiwara, Kousuke Toyohara, Ayumi Ito, Makiko Watanabe, and Miyuki Matsuda will be joining the cast. This live-action series exists because of the film plans from 2013. Then the producers decided to revamp the idea into a mini-series. So, the show now has ten episodes. Micheal Mann will be directing the show. Also, WOWOW will be co-producing it.

The Tokyo Vice Live-Action will be out on 7 April 2022. It will have three episodes. After that, every Thursday, we will have two episodes. The series finale will be on 28 April 2022.
