Based on the Japanese manga series of the same name, this popular anime series was adapted by Studio Kinema Citrus. It follows an orphaned girl named Riko, who lives in the Belchero Orphanage in Orth, a fictional town. The town’s surrounded by a strange giant hole called the Abyss. The place consists of some artifacts, and Cave Raiders use it for hunting. However, there is a curse linked to the Abyss. So, the deeper someone goes inside it, the more effective the curse will become.
Made In Abyss Season 2: Renewal Status!
As we know, the first season aired back in 2017. The animation studio Kinema Citrus took several months to renew Made In Abyss Season 2. The renewal announcement was made after the sequel film titled Dawn Of the Deep Soul dropped the surprising news. The sequel film dropped the “To be continued” message in the credits.
Following that day, the anime’s official website confirmed the series was returning for the second season. However, some avid fans thought that the upcoming sequel could be a second film. But sorry to say it’s not going to happen. There have plenty of storylines to cover, which could be different to wrap in another movie. Therefore, the studio is ready to come up with Made In Abyss Season 2.
Is Production For Made In Abyss Season 2 Started?
Well, the anime’s official site hadn’t dropped anything regarding the production. However, back on May 6, 2021, the studio officially released the key art, which hinted the production was underway. Typically, animation takes nearly ten months or a year to wrap up production. Considering the trailer dropped by the end of 2021, we are safe to say the production has already wrapped up.
Key Visual Teases Who Will Return
Earlier this April, the studio dropped a new key visual, focusing on three main characters, Riko, Nanachi, and Reg. Well, deeming the background, it looks like they are heading deeper to Abyss, perhaps in search of Riko’s mother. Apart from this, the key art has also confirmed the title of the second run- Made In Abyss: The Golden City Of The Scorching Sun. Furthermore, Sentai Filmworks licensed the second anime series.
Made In Abyss Season 2: What Will Happen Next?
In the sequel film, Riko, Nanachi, and Reg joined Bondrewd’s base, Ido Front. There they met a girl named Prushka greeted them and asked if they were her father’s guests. Bondrewd appeared and helped them to enter the 6th layer. Later, Prushka and Riko bond as she takes her on a tour of the place and introduces her to her pet, Meinya. But things turned drastically when Umbra Hands started his experiment on Reg and cut off his arm.
After a brutal fight, Bondrewd explains to them about transferring his consciousness. In fact, he turned Prushka into a cartridge. Riko appeared upset after learning this. But soon, a stone-like thing appeared from the cartridge. So Riko wears it around her neck and starts her quest. Well, to get deeper into the Abyss, they need a White Whistle, and the stone they found will help them craft a White Whistle. This means they can easily go deeper. But they have to find some other elements, which might take some time to unearth.
Trailer Hints At New Exploration
Back on November 21, 2021, the animation studio released the first trailer of Made In Abyss Season 2. Riko pays attention to the compass needle, which stands straight. It hints they are closer to their desire and dream city named The Golden City Of The Scorching Sun. She, along with her crew, starts an exploration to find the city. Luckily they get a hint from the compass needle. Further, the promo hints they will find an isolated island from where their new quest will begin.
Made In Abyss: Release Date Is Out!
By the end of the last year, the animation studio dropped the news that Made In Abyss Season 2 will return in 2022. The series will first premiere in Japan in July 2022. It will consist of 10 to 13 episodes. Further, there were words that the show would be a single cour, meaning it would remain on air for three-month.
