In the eighth episode of Sonny Boy, fans saw the back story of Yamabiko. The dog that has been with the students since their first teleportation, finally revealed how he turned into a talking dog. Yamabiko revealed that during his first drift, he met a girl named Kodama, who had the strongest powers he had seen so far. Kodama could turn anyone into anything she wanted. So, both Yamabiko and Kodama became good friends through their drifts. Later on, when an epidemic befell the jungle, all the students started developing brain tumors.
All students except Yamabiko were contracting the disease. Thus, the class came to the conclusion that Yama was behind the epidemic. Kodama turned Yama into a dog in order to save him from the class. But the conversion changed Yama drastically. He could never recognize Kodama after he became a dog. Thus, Kodama also drifted away to some other world, and Yamabiko remained the dog.
