The Devil Ring is a Chinese animated series produced by Tencent Animations. The 14-episode series aired between April and July 2016, with each episode of only 13 minutes. Around its debut, the anime became immensely famous amongst otakus around the globe. However, the series was also criticized for its bad writing by a large chunk of its audience. In 2019, a manhua (Chinese comic book) version written and illustrated by Zhang Sanfeng was released. It is currently ongoing, with more than 110 chapters published.
The Devil Ring Season 2: Renewal Updates
Sadly, Tencent Animations & Comics is yet to renew the second season of the supernatural Donghua. Moreover, all of its producers have remained tight-lipped about the anime’s return. One of the main reasons behind the same is the performance of the first season. Even though it managed to earn a fan-following, the series was actually a commercial failure for its creators. It has also received a below-average rating on almost all review and rating websites.
It’s usually very unlikely for unsuccessful shows to return for a second round. If the anime isn’t able to earn enough revenue, it may never get another chance. Hence, if fans want to watch The Devil Ring Season 2, they must keep signing petitions in support of the sequel. If the demand goes out of hand, Tencent might become interested in the show again. The story of the Chinese anime centers around a freshman student Zhou Xiaoan. When he puts on a ring that he doesn’t know the origin of, a terrifying devil leaps from his mouth. This incident changes his life forever. Soon after this, he comes to know of shocking and historical secrets. He comes across a Blood Devil called King Zhou Of Shang and a race of heart-eating zombies. Moreover, he also meets a dubious group of Taoist Priests that fight against the mysterious beings of the supernatural world who can blend into human society.
The story of the show ended on a cliffhanger, and fans are still waiting to know what happens ahead of it. As of now, the creators of the show have not revealed anything about the plot of The Devil Ring Season 2. However, since The Devil Ring manhua is still in the run, fans might get to know of Xiaoan’s future. If the second season gets renewed, Tencent Animation might follow the story of the recent chapters of the Chinese comic.
The Devil Ring Season 2: Release Date
Tencent is yet to greenlight the sequel of the supernatural Donghua. Hence, it’s currently hard to predict a release date. However, even if the renewal comes this year, The Devil Ring Season 2 might not premiere anytime sooner than late-2021 or early-2022.
