Vampire Knight Season 3: Canceled? But Why? Can Fans Save It?

Vampire Knight Season 3

After around a dozen years of its last release, fans of the anime have started to lose hope for its sequel. As of today, Studio Deen is yet to renew Vampire Knight Season 3. However, it’s important to notice that the studio hasn’t canceled the show either. So, is there hope for another season? Can fans save it from cancelation? Here’s everything you need to know about the popular Vampire drama series.

Vampire Knight originated as a shoujo manga series written by Matsuri Hino. It began serialization in January 2005 and was officially wrapped up in mid-2013. Due to its immense popularity and large fandom, the manga was soon picked up for an anime adaptation. The television animated show completed its 26-episode air between April and July 2008. Like its source material, it became a fan-favorite and took no time to return for a sequel. The second season premiered in October 2008 and reached its finale towards the end of that year.

Vampire Knight Season 3: Renewal

Despite heavy demand, the third season of the supernatural-romance show is yet to hit the screens. For the past twelve years, fans have been waiting for their favorite anime to return. However, none of the companies related to its production have confirmed another sequel. One of the main reasons behind the same lies in the source material of the show.

The Vampire Knight manga series serialized between 2005 and 2013. Since the manga has already ended, its anime adaptation has no purpose to return. Unlike US television shows, anime adaptations are greenlit as a form of advertisement for their source material. These generally help in increasing the sale of their respective light novels, mangas, or video games. Hence, they are usually canceled once their source material has ended.

Likewise, Vampire Knight Season 3 now has no content to promote. Besides, it has already been a dozen years, and it would be hard to gather the same audience again. Thus, sadly, chances for its renewal are pretty unreasonable.

Can Fans Save The Show? Is There Any Hope For Its Return?

Nowadays, fans and followers hold much more power over the renewal of shows than they ever did. As long as the program is trending online or there are enough people to sign petitions, there will always be hope for its return. Fortunately, even after more than a decade, Vampire Knight has a massive fanbase. They have already signed several petitions in support of the third season. In fact, one of these petitions already has over 50,000 signatures.

In the past, the renewal of sequels was quite improbable. Only the most popular shows were ever greenlit for a second or third run. However, luckily, the emergence of international streaming platforms like Netflix has helped potential shows to make a comeback. Hence, these streamers can actually save Vampire Knight Season 3 from cancellation.

Vampire Knight Spin-Off Anime

The Vampire Knight manga has a total of 19 volumes. Out of these, the first two seasons of the anime adaptation has covered less than eight volumes. Hence, the third installment has quite a lot of content to adapt. Yet, given the long hiatus of twelve years, the studio may not continue the story from where it left in Season 2.

Aside from that, Studio Reed or another streaming platform might attempt to produce a reboot series of the show. In recent times, plenty of old and popular anime made a comeback in the same way and covered the story from the starting. Some of the most famous reboots include Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, Fruits Basket, and others. Hence, Vampire Knight still has a shot at the screens if it returns as a reboot series.

Another way for the show to return is in the form of a spin-off series. Mangaka Matsuri Hino continued his popular story years after the original manga ended. The spin-off manga called Vampire Knight Memories began serialization back in 2016. As of today, it’s still in the run. The most recent volume (Volume 5) of the Memories manga came out in November 2019. Hence, even if Vampire Knight Season 3 is canceled, fans may get to watch a spin-off anime.

Vampire Knight Season 3: Release Date

As of 2020, Studio Reed or any other company related to the production of the anime have confirmed its return. Even if they renew it this year, Vampire Knight Season 3 might take at least a year for production. According to current circumstances, any new episodes may not premiere anytime before early to mid-2022. We will update this section once the official release date comes out.
