The manga follows the story of Yoichi, who aspires to become the next best striker in the world. After failing at a qualifier match, he begins searching for ways to prove his worth. That is when he hears of the Blue Lock program and signs up for the program.
The Blue Lock program is a plan by Jinpachi to find a new strong striker for the Japanese National team. The Japanese Football Association hires the coach as a last resort to secure a win in the next world cup. So, the strange coach selects three hundred potential strikers and locks them in a prison-like facility. The survivor of this Blue Lock program will become the next striker for the national team. Whereas, the members who lose are banned from joining the team.
