Demon Slayer Ending Explained: What Is The Story Of Gyutaro And Daki?

Nezuko and Tanjiro find Gyutaro and his sister in the middle of a heated argument. The two begin blaming each other for being weak and causing problems. Bothered by their dispute Tanjiro goes to Gyutaro and asks him to reconsider his last words to his sister. He tells them that even though the whole world hates them, the two can show each other love in the end. Daki tears up and pleads with her brother to save her before disintegrating. A sad Gyutaro then tells about their past.

He was born in the Rashomon Riverbanks, belonging to the poorest sect of the Entertainment District. He had a very tough life growing up in the district due to his appearance. In a village where good looks are the key to everything, he was mistreated and despised for his looks. However, things begin to change when his sister Ume is born. Named after the disease that killed her mother, she is the opposite of his brother. She gets quick recognition for he charm and beauty. She adds purpose and brings meaning to her brother, who had nothing until then.

Gyutaro, inspired by his sister, takes advantage of his looks and becomes a debt collector. The entire village begins to fear and despise him. However, their luck runs out when Ume stabs a samurai in his eye. Gyutaro finds his sister burnt and left alone in a ditch. The samurai who killed Ume stabs Gyutaro, who learns that he was working with an elderly woman who was jealous of Ume. Gyutaro waits for an opportunity and kills both of them. He then goes across the town with his sister in his arms, pleading for help. However, no one answers his calls.

How Gyutaro And Ume Became Demons

The hopeless Gyutaro then runs into an upper-rank demon feasting on a dead Geisha. The demon Doma takes pity on the siblings and shares his blood, and transforms them into demons. Thus, Gyutaro and Daki become the upper rank six demons. Back in the present, Gyutaro confesses that he was always meant to be a demon. However, his sister deserved so much better. He feels guilty about his sister and thinks of how she could have become more if she had been born somewhere else. The demon then begins to see himself in a foggy open space. He hears his sister calling out to him.

However, unlike her brother, Daki looks like her human self Ume, who still has demon form. She notices her brother leaving and begins pleading with him to stop. When he does not listen to her, she clutches him and hangs on to him, begging him to forgive her. Gyutaro coldly tells her to let him go and that they are no longer siblings. However, Ume holds onto him and reminds him of the promise he made to her that they will always be together. So, Gyutaro carries her to hell.
