The pilot season of Edens Zero recently ended course in the west. In Japan, the series was released as a single entity without any breaks. However, the 25-episode series was split into two cours to release in the US and other territories. As soon as the show came to a halt, fans began to demand for the season renewal. Last week, right before the release of the finale episode of Edens Zero, the director of the series passed away. The sudden death of Yuji Suzuki left the entire team shocked and grieving. All plans of commemorations and celebrations were thus canceled. Later, the team released a statement to the public and remembered the creator.
Edens Zero Season 2: Renewal Status
The renewal status of Edens Zero Season 2 is currently in the state of limbo. Last week, director Yuji Suzuki suddenly passed away. While the previous episode was due last weekend, the team was set to celebrate a successful run. Instead, the social media handles of the series came out with a piece of unfortunate news. All celebrations and further works were called off, and the team mourned the loss of their team leader.
The last episode was aired on the due date, and it also remembered the director. Before the credits rolled at the end, the episode displayed the note that “Edens Zero will return.” While this is a green flag in the direction of renewal, speculations suggests that the return may get a push ahead. This is because of the shocking death of the director of the show. So far, there has been no official confirmation on the future plans. However, fans are still hopeful that the makers will follow up on the vision of director Yuji Suzuki.
Manga Compared To Anime
The Edens Zero manga has been up and running since June 2018. So far, Kodansha has published seventeen volumes in the manga. This contains around 149 chapters in total. The pilot season of Edens Zero was released in two cours in the west. Thus, some fans might consider the next installment to be its third season. However, the renewed outing would only be the second installment for Japan. So, the pilot season used up roughly around eight volumes of the manga.
As a result, the final episode ended up aligning the plot with the 68th chapter of the manga. Thus, the next season is likely to continue the plot from the 9th volume of the text. This also implies that the source material currently has nine volumes to lend to the second season, which is more than enough by the standard usage. And as the manga continually produces more volumes, there might also be source material left for a third installment.
Edens Zero Season 2: Release Date
At the time of writing, there has been no official confirmation on the release of Edens Zero Season 2. However, since the final episode teased the renewal of season 2, it is safe to say that the behind-the-scenes work of the renewal is already complete. The season may get a push-ahead due to the demise of the director, but cancellation is a weaker possibility.
