Girls’ Last Tour, aka Shoujo Shuumatsu, is a Japanese post-apocalyptic sci-fi anime series. It is an anime adaptation of the iyashikei manga series of the same title by Tsukumizu. The viewers first saw the series on October 6, 2017. It had a short span of twelve episodes, which ended on December 22, 2017. Shoujo Shuumatsu also won the best Slice of Life anime at Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2018.
Girls’ Last Tour Season 2: Renewal Status!
White Fox animation studio, which is famous for shows like Steins Gate, Akame ka Gill, Re Zero, and many more, produced the debut season of the anime series. The studio received a lot of praise for its brilliant work in Shoujo Shuumatsu. However, after the completion of its inaugural installment, the studio hasn’t updated anything regarding its future.
Both White Fox and the author of the manga series didn’t cancel or renew the show of its second season. The fans have been eagerly waiting for them to officially announce Girls’ Last Tour Season 2. The fate of this anime series is still up in the air as no official words came from its creators.
Do The Makers Have Enough Source Material?
Tsukumizu, the author of the manga series, has published a total of six volumes in the manga. After the release of its fourth volume, the makers announced that the manga series would end with its sixth volume. As a result, the fans saw the conclusion of the manga series on March 9, 2018.
The debut season of the anime series already adapted the content from the first four volumes of the manga. And that means White Fox has only two volumes which have fourteen chapters to create Girls’ Last Tour Season 2. Even if they adopt two chapters in a single episode, then still they won’t be able to make a ten-episode season. Therefore, right now, the makers do not have enough source material for the second season of the anime.
Girls’ Last Tour Season 2: Will The Anime Return?
Despite having great ratings and reviews, the chances for the anime to return are very slim. The makers do not have enough source material. They can hardly create seven episodes with the remaining source material. They have to ask the author to write some original stories in order to bridge the gap, and that is very unlikely to happen. Therefore, it is likely that the fans will not see Girls’ Last Tour Season 2. But the makers might end the anime series by releasing some OVA episodes.
