The romance-comedy genre has a special place in all the kind of shows, and the same goes for anime series as well. A decent story with a blend of romantic drama can do wonders. One such show titled Koikimo recently came out. It didn’t have a great start, but it began to connect more and more viewers as it gets better with every single episode. Koikimo, also known as Koi to Yobu ni wa Kimochi Warui in Japanese, is a romantic comedy anime series. It is the remake of Mogusu’s manga series of the same name. Studio Nomad produced the first season of this anime that ran for twelve episodes. Its premiere episode came out on April 5, 2021, whereas its season finale hit the screens on June 14, 2021.
Manga Compared To The Anime
Before the serialization of the manga, Mogosu uploaded the illustrations on Pixiv. In January 2015, it finally received an online manga serialization that ran till March 2021. Throughout this six years run, the author has released a total of eight volumes. Koikimo also followed the current trend of adopting the entire romantic-comedy manga into a single anime series. The hit shows like Horimiya and Higehiro also did the same. Sometimes it works in favor of the anime, and but it also backfires, just like it happened with The Promised Neverland Season 2.
The good thing is that the pacing of this anime was much better, and it certainly worked in its favor. However, the bad thing is that Studio Nomad now has nothing left to use in Koikimo Season 2. Even if they use the skipped chapters, they won’t be able to make another full-fledged installment of this romantic drama.
Koikimo Season 2: Renewal Status
The first set of episodes of this romantic drama got a great response from everyone. It started with a mixed response, but as the series moved forward, its reviews began to fall more on the positive side. The show got involved in a little controversy as well for depicting age-gap romance. In the end, Koikimo managed to get a score of 7.19 on MyAnimeList. Not only that, but it has more than 162K members in its MAL group and is ranked at #1046 in popularity.
These figures are convincing enough for any production studio to give the green light to its second season. However, the only problem is that Studio Nomad already exhausted all of its source material. Also, its first season had a satisfying end, and the makers certainly don’t want to ruin it. Therefore, now the chances are very less that Koikimo Season 2 will ever happen.
Koikimo Season 2: Release Date
As previously mentioned, the possibility of the sequel of this romantic drama hitting the screens is very less. It might get the green light if the makers decide to continue the series without following any source material. Once it gets an original story, Koikimo Season 2 might premiere sometime in 2023.
