Mieruko Chan Season 2: Is It Coming Back? Renewal, Plot & Release Date

Mieruko Chan Season 2

Studio Passione

Mieruko Chan Season 2 might even be the most anticipated sequel of all time. With the first season making its debut back in October 2021, not much was expected from the Passione project. However, as the season progressed, fans were no less than surprised at what had come their way. In a matter of two months, the first season of this horror-comedy rose to the top charts of the Fall 2021 slate. Soon enough, the chatter around Mieruko Chan Season 2 began to catch fire. So, what is the word around the second season? Is it coming back? Here is everything you need to know about the return.

Mieruko Chan is one of the most popular horror-comedy seinen manga in Japan. Tomoki Izumi’s text first came out in November 2018. Since then, MF Comics has published six volumes of the story so far. Later in 2021, Studio Passione announced the anime adaptation of this popular story. The first episode came out on October 3, 2021. Soon enough, the banner gained the same acclaim in the anime wing as it did in the manga counterpart. And so, the hype for the second season is already beginning to spread like wildfire. Keep reading further to find out about the return of the sequel.

Mieruko Chan Season 2: Renewal Status!

As of now, there is no update on the renewal of the second season of Mieruko Chan. After the December 2021 halt, there has been no word either from the studio or from the distributor about the return. In most cases, a renewal is teased in the final episode of the series with notes like ‘to be continued’ or ‘the series will return.’ However, Mieruko Chan was devoid of any such announcements.

In this case, it can be assumed that the makers are banking on the reception of the first season to lay the renewal decision of the second season. If that appears to be true, the chances of the return of Mieruko Chan Season 2 are quite high. The anime turned out to be listed in the Top 10 anime of Fall 2021 slate. Along with this, the IMDb score of the anime happens to be 7.3 out of 10. Moreover, more than eighty-five thousand users have rated the series above 7.5 stars on MyAnimeList.

Thus, it is safe to say that the series has a wide door to enter the second season. It is only a matter of time until the final announcement for the sequel is made on a public platform.

Mieruko Chan Season 2: Production Updates

As of the last update, the only piece of concrete hint that points towards the production of the second season is a tweet by Mieruko Chan author Tomoki Izumi. In a tweet from October 2021, the mangaka wrote about the continuation of the story. Tomoki said that most people think that the story of Mieruko Chan has come to an end. However, he confirmed that the story was nowhere near its conclusion. In fact, there was a lot to come in the upcoming storylines.

While the production of the series has not been confirmed by the makers, it can be assumed that the project is undergoing decision-making. Thus, fans await the confirmation of the sequel in the near future.

Spoiler Warning: The following subheads contain major spoilers from Mieruko Chan Season 1 and 2.

Previous Season Recap!

The pilot season of Mieruko Chan spends most of its time introducing the characters that the fans will be spending time with for the span of twelve episodes. From the introduction of lead characters to the world built around them, the first two episodes draw the sketch of this horror world. So, Miko is the protagonist who starts spotting ghost figures around her one sudden day. And this remains the subject matter for the entirety of the season. With most of the episodes focusing on her spotting ghosts and trying to bypass them unharmed, the finale changes the picture.

Zen, who is a close friend of Miko, finds out that someone was killing all the cats and kittens in his neighborhood. At first, Miko suspected that it was Zen himself, but she later found that it was the ghost of Zen’s late mother who was attacking all the cats. And so, Miko requested the maiden Shrine to eliminate the ghost once and for all. Towards the end of the first season, Miko was left with both her vision and without the help of the maiden Shrine.

What Will Happen Next?

The first season dealt with the introduction to Miko and her newfound ability to see ghosts. Now, the second installment will deal with the answer to this question. All through the pilot, it was never answered as to how Miko got the ability to see ghosts. From meeting mages to inquiring hoaxes, Miko tried everything in her hand to find the answer. But neither her ability went away, nor did she find the truth. So, Mieruko Chan Season 2 will be looking into the same matter.

According to the plot arcs from the manga, the second season will pick up with Miko learning about a stalker who is following her. It turns out that she is being followed not by a ghost but by a human. The boy turns out to be an illusionist who can see ghosts too. But unlike Miko, he possesses certain stones that can repel ghostly entities away from him. And so, the meeting of these two characters will bring many answers to the forefront.

The source material also suggests that Miko will be followed by the three maiden shrines after the three requests are exhausted. As this conflict unhinges, Miko will find herself meeting with Godmother Mitsue, who reveals herself to be an entity of the other world. She also reveals that the maidens also come from a ghostly world. As this revelation proceeds further, Hana is also expected to be dragged into the turmoil.

Is There Enough Source Material?

Mieruko Chan anime draws a plot from the horror manga of the same name. From what the overall feedback has been, the adaptation is sincere to the original source material. However, the plot varies in some episodes. So, the original source material has released six volumes as of now. The first season ended up using only the first two volumes of the manga. This means that the source material still has enough content to lend to the second season. On top of this, the manga is still an ongoing project.

This suggests that the series can have more seasons even after the sequel. Now, all eyes are upon Studio Passione to revoke the idea and culminate a franchise on this popular horror-comedy.
