Mushishi Season 3: Canceled? [Latest Updates] Everything To Know

Mushishi Season 3

Mushishi Season 3 is one of the most anticipated anime series of recent times. Fans have been waiting for the third installment for the past six years. They already went through an eight years hiatus to watch the second season. However, it didn’t affect their enthusiasm regarding the future of the show. So, will fans ever be able to see the third season of the critically acclaimed series? Here are all the latest details.

Mushishi, aka Mushishi Zoku Shou, is a Japanese slice-of-life adventure anime series. It follows the plot from the manga of the same title by Yuki Urushibara. Studio Artland adapted the manga’s story into an anime series that made its debut on October 23, 2005. It ran for 26 episodes and ended on June 19, 2006. The anime’s second season premiered after a gap of eight years on April 5, 2014. It ran for 20 episodes and concluded on December 21 of the same year.

Mushishi Season 3: Renewal Status!

Mushishi Zoku Shou is one of the most successful and critically acclaimed anime of the previous decade. Not only the anime, but its manga was also highly successful and received a lot of awards. The show managed to secure a place in the list of best anime series of the past decade. Despite that, the production company has not renewed it for a third installment.

Fans have been waiting for the past six years to hear from the officials regarding the anime’s future. However, they are not revealing anything. They neither renewed nor canceled the third installment of the show. Therefore, some fans are still hopeful that Mushishi Season 3 will take place, while some already lost their hope.

Is There Enough Content To Adapt For Another Installment?

As we mentioned above, the anime follows the plot of a manga series of the same title. The serialization of this manga began back in 1999 and continued for nearly a decade until 2008. As of today, the author has published a total of ten volumes. However, both installments of the anime have already covered most of the content from the manga. Hence, the production company doesn’t have enough source material for Mushishi Season 3. The anime skipped some chapters from the manga series, but it will certainly not be sufficient to create another full-length season.

Mushishi Season 3: Will The Anime Return?

Over the course of its run, the Mushishi Zoku Shou manga received several awards, including the best manga series. Whereas both installments of the anime made it to the top anime list several times. The sales of both the manga and the anime were great and made a lot of profit for its producers. The show even holds a score of 8.69 on MyAnimeList, which is quite high compared to other anime in the genre. However, the second installment has already consumed the entirety of the source material available. In fact, it returned after eight years only to provide closure to the storyline. Therefore, with no source material and a proper conclusion, chances for the renewal of Mushishi Season 3 are pretty unlikely. So, fans shouldn’t raise their hopes very high to watch more episodes of the anime.
