Otherside Picnic, aka Ura Sekai Picnic in Japanese, is an adventure sci-fi anime series. Liden Films and Felix Films produced this show together and picked up its story from Iori Miyazawa’s manga series of the same title. The anime series premiered on Japanese televisions back on January 4, 2021, and had a good run of twelve episodes. It finally came to a conclusion on March 22, 2021, and since then, fans have been looking for its sequel.
Ura Sekai Picnic Anime Vs Manga
Everyone was pretty excited to watch the recently released anime as the Ura Sekai Picnic manga already met a good critical reception. Besides, it even broke the stereotypes of the Yuri genre and created a pretty unique narrative. However, the anime failed to stay loyal to its brilliant source material. The adaptation by Liden and Felix even changed its theme to horror for some episodes. As a result, its fourth episode was heavily criticized by the audience. Some viewers even described it as the worst episode they’ve seen in a very long time.
The third episode came with an anime original story, but it was a decent one, unlike how most original plots are. Later, Episode 6 also made several changes. However, sadly, it ruined the character development of its protagonist, Sorawo. Aside from that, the anime directors made a lot of blunders which could be quite annoying for the manga readers. Also, given how people reacted to most of its initial episodes, the stakes don’t seem to be in favor of Otherside Picnic Season 2.

As we stated above, the anime made a lot of changes to the plot of the series, and it badly affects the possibilities of its sequel. Despite having a pretty messed season, the finale was wholesome, and it concluded the series on a satisfying note. The Girls saved the soldiers, and there were no casualties. Ura Sekai Picnic anime already disturbed the sequence while adapting the source material. Therefore, the production studios don’t have much content for its future installment. Besides, the ending suggested that there won’t be Otherside Picnic Season 2. Its mixed critical reviews and poor ratings also indicate the same. The first season of the anime ended without explaining a lot of its plot decisions. There were some major plot holes that the viewers thought needs to be fixed in a second season. So, if by any chance the makers renew it this year, then its production will take another one year or more.
