After countless delays and push-aheads, The Deer King Movie has finally come out with a definite premiere date. The movie kept delaying its release since 2018. First, the pandemic postponed the film’s original September 2020 release. Later, the August 2021 release was also called back in light of the emergency. The movie is based on Nahoko Uehashi’s novel series of the same name. Kadokawa published two volumes of the novels, then reprinted them as four. The novels were first released in 2014 and ran until 2017. The novels went on to inspire a manga adaption in July 2021. Taro Sekiguchi is credited as the illustrator of the manga. Now, fans look forward to the visual light of this project.
The Deer King Movie: New Trailer Out!
After two postponements, the Deer King Movie is finally getting its release. The franchise’s official website has released a new trailer and a new visual. It was mentioned that Hiroki Shinagawa has worked on the concept visuals, and Hiroshi Ohno has directed the new art. The visual and the trailer features the movie’s main characters, Van, Hossal, Yuna, and Sae. In addition, the trailer also unveiled the rescheduled release date of the film.
The working team of the movie includes animation director Masashi Ando who is making his directorial debut with The Deer King Movie. He will be co-directing the film with Masayuki Miyaji. Masashi Ando is the chief animation director on the project. In addition, he is also drawing the character designs. And Taku Kishimoto, famous for working on Haikyu!!, Fruits Basket is working on the scripts. Production I.G is animating the film.
What Is The Plot?
The movie is based on Nahoko Uehashi’s original novel series. The story follows Van, a prisoner of war, forced to work in the rival kingdom’s salt mines. One unfortunate night, a pack of dogs attack the mines and begin spreading an illness. Van escapes the mines and finds a young girl. Meanwhile, Hossal, a medical scientist, tries to find a cure for fighting against the mysterious illness.
The movie tells the stories of different people fighting against the illness and their bonds. It follows the strange friendships born out of the circumstances. The movie stars Shinichi Tsutsumi, Ryoma Takeuchi, and Anne Watanabe in the lead roles. The movie also won a Bronze Audience Award at the Fantasia International Film Festival in August. So, there are some high expectations of this film before the final release.

The Deer King Movie: New Release Date
The Deer King had to postpone its release twice due to the global pandemic. But after many hurdles, the movie is finally set to release. The official website of TDK has revealed that The Deer King will come out on February 4, 2022. However, this release is exclusive to Japanese audiences.
