Why Did Denji Kill His Father: Makima Reveals The Truth!

The Chainsaw Man plotline never revealed much about Denji’s parents. The only thing that fans knew was that his mother had heart-related diseases. She died shortly before his father. Throughout the Chainsaw Man series, Denji didn’t seem to care much about his parents. Survival was his end goal. It seemed as if he was dodging his past subconsciously. It is obvious that anyone would want to avoid thinking about such a traumatic past. Ultimately, much of the time, the plot hinted at subtle details about Denji’s personality.

Fans began to suspect more about what might have happened. However, Makima reveals that she looked into his past and discovered something about him. She exposed that Denji had killed his father. It was also her tactic to crush whatever spirit Denji had in him after mourning for Power’s death. Suddenly the panel changed to a young Denji witnessing his father’s death. Blood spilled over the floor. The visual didn’t hint at any suicide. It was clear then what had happened.

Makima revealed that Denji’s father was an alcoholic. He was abusive towards little Denji. And he used to beat him regularly. After his mom passed away, Denji grew up in this toxic household with his father. His father even borrowed large sums of money from the Yakuzas. It may have been for alcohol or his cigarettes. He was a gambler, which explains why he left such a huge debt to Denji. He borrowed so much that at one point, it was far too much for him ever to pay back.

Denji’s father wasn’t at all a good human, certainly. His violent actions were too much for Denji to bear. The situation was such that only one would get out alive. For unknown reasons, his father wanted to kill him. Perhaps they were too poor, so his Dad wanted to get rid of him. But whatever the reason, Denji had no choice but to save himself. His longing for freedom had made him murder his own Dad. However, all this time Denji suppressed this part of his memory. But after Makima reminded him, he was able to recall a vague memory.

Ultimately, the Yakuzas made Denji repay as a devil hunter. This made Denji also accept the false report in some way. It makes sense, given that huge emotional trauma was piled up on him even though he was still a child. Denji introspected if he deserved to live a normal life.
