While When They Cry Sotsu was itself a stretch in the anime franchise, the demand for another installment is still high. So, is there any way that the fans can get a new season after SOTSU? Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni originally began as a homegrown game franchise by 07th Expansion. Later in March 2005, Ryukishi07 launched the manga of the mystery franchise. The manga went on the serialize thirty-eight volumes in a span of six years. So far, Studio Deen has released four anime series and four OVAs in the franchise. Now, the speculations around the new installment are growing rapidly.
Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Sotsu Season 3: Renewal Status
After the second season of Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Gou ended on September 30, 2021, fans were looking forward to hearing about the next reboot. As When They Cry Sotsu was the sequel to the Gou series, the next installment is likely to be called the third season of the series. So far, there has been no official confirmation on the return of the franchise in the anime wing. For the past two seasons, Studio Deen has been producing installments in a regular gap of one year.
Thus, fans can expect a reboot of the series very soon. The critical ratings of the show have also been significantly higher. The second season has been rated 8.7 out of 10 on IMDb. Moreover, the MyAnimeList rating of the show is as high as 6.93 stars. Thus, fans can be hopeful about the return of the anime franchise to the screens.
Is There Enough Source Material?
The When They Cry text series has a vast plethora of reboots and spin-offs. In total, the franchise has around one light novel series (4 volumes), one manga series (38 volumes), and one novel series (17 volumes). The thirty-eight volumes of the manga are essentially divided into fifteen arcs in total.
All four anime series are essentially developed from these varying arcs. The first season used the first five arcs of the manga. The following two seasons used up the next ten arcs of the manga. Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Sotsu was essentially a different sort of edition that combined the major plot details of the entire series and culminated it into one season. In broader terms, all the anime series and the OVA’s have exhausted the source material of Ryukishi07’s work.
However, since SOTSU was a combining season for the entire story, there are still many plotlines that the spin-off needs to cover. Thus, it is safe to say that Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Sotsu Season 3 will have plenty of source material to adapt a story from.
Plot Details
The second season, better known as Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Sotsu, ended with many question marks. After getting rescued from the endless nightmare loops, Rika decided to follow her predecided plan. She had applied to the St. Lucia Academy way back in the first episode. Thus, it is finally time for her to leave the Academy. Even though her friends do not want her to join the new school, she is persistent in her choice.
The season ended with Rika saying goodbye to her friends and welcoming the new life ahead of her. Now, Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Sotsu Season 3 will deal with the aftermath of her departure. Sakoto’s witch form remains one of the biggest threats for her. Even though she is physically leaving the Academy, Sakoto can always intervene with her dreams. Moreover, the next season will also touch upon the characters of Hanyuu and Eua.
The two antagonistic figures did create a lot of chaos in the last season. But their motivation behind the evilness is still not clear. Fans can expect many more revelations in the upcoming installment.
Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Sotsu Season 3: Release Date
For the time being, there has been no confirmation on the release of a third season. However, both the anime series before SOTSU were released in a gap of one year. Thus, fans can expect the same release schedule for Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Sotsu Season 3 as well. Also, Studio Deen would not take longer than a year to finish the animation of 15 episodes.
