The story of Joran: The Princess of Snow and Blood is set in an alternate history of Japan. In it, the shogun Tokugawa Yoshinobu continues to be in power instead of handing it over to the Prime Minister. Japan found a unique energy source, “Dragon Vein,” that allowed them to advance their technological progress at a very high rate in the Edo period. During the same time, an elite group force of executioners has given the task of defending the shogun from a rebel organization known as Kuchinawa.
Sawa Yukimura is an owner of a bookshop. But from the inside, she just wants her revenge against the one who killed his tribe and family. She has blue blood, which provided her a special ability to transform. The one she is finding is the leader of Kuchinawa, and hence she joined Nue so that she could take her revenge on him.
