Who is Ryomen Sukuna & How Did He Become a Curse?
At the beginning of Jujutsu Kaisen, it was revealed that Sukuna was an Imaginary Demon. He existed during the golden age of Jujutsu almost 1000 years ago. However, Ryomen Sukuna was actually an immensely powerful human sorcerer. But all the other sorcerers killed him. Sukuna was so powerful that he was considered a threat to humanity. As a result, all the other sorcerers collectively decided to kill this unbeatable sorcerer.
After the death, Sukuna became a cursed spirit. However, the curse was way too strong to hold for his body. As a result, the cursed spirit of Sukuna got divided into 20 indestructible fingers. These fingers are known as Special grade cursed objects. Yuji Itadori, the primary protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen, consumed these fingers, and he became a vessel to Ryomen Sukuna. He will complete his reincarnation inside Yuji Itadori’s body once he eats all twenty of his fingers.

Since Sukuna is now inside Yuji’s body, his physical appearance has changed a lot. We can also say the present Sukuna to be the altered version of Yuji. When Sukuna appeared out of Yuji, tattoos and marks also appeared on Itadori’s body, along with a second set of eyes, and the fingernails also got sharp. On the other hand, the original appearance of Ryomen Sukuna is quite intimidating, just like a demon.
According to the legends, Sukuna has two faces and four arms. The fact that Sukuna’s cursed energy got divided into twenty fingers pretty much explained the four arms thing.
