Shadowverse is a Japanese fantasy anime series based on a card game of the same name by Cygames. Zexcs animation studio animated the debut installment of this show. The anime series made its debut last year on April 7. It ran for a total of 48 episodes and finally came to an end recently, on March 23, 2021.

The anime version of the card game was pretty sloppy. Some viewers dropped the show midway because they felt like it is only for kids, whereas some dropped it due to sheer boredom. Even the premiere episode wasn’t able to make an impression on the audience. Besides, the main issue about this anime was the presentation of its battles. It was predictable and failed to entertain the fans. Not only that, but the characters of Shadowverse were pretty shallow as well.
They didn’t get any development despite having dedicated arcs for some characters. Plus, the protagonist was also not written very well. The anime is too generic as it revolves around a card game. However, the only positive thing about the series was the good visuals and clear animation of it. Some fans might find it very difficult to watch the entire 48 episodes of this show.

The first season of the anime met with poor reviews and ratings upon its completion. The critics also gave a negative response to it. It has a very poor score of 5.69 on MyAnimeList and doesn’t even have a total of 2,000 members. Hence, it seems like the show didn’t become popular enough despite running for an entire year. The main purpose of the anime was to promote the game that was recently released on Nintendo Switch. It already fulfilled its purpose. So, Shadowverse Season 2 doesn’t seem to be on the cards, especially after the poor performance of its debut run.

It would be a miracle if the makers decide to renew the sequel to promote another game. If that happens, the production of this show will take at least one and a half years to complete. Therefore, when the renewal comes, fans can expect to see Shadowverse Season 2 sometime in 2023.
