Horimiya is one of the best romantic dramas that came out this year. Its fans are still not over the beautiful and cute relationship of Kyoki Hori and Izumi Miyamura. They are getting desperate to see more of this couple in Horimiya Season 2. The first season of the anime became a blockbuster hit and is a contender of the anime of the year. So, when will the fans see the sequel of this hit show? Here are all the latest details.
Horimiya, aka Hori-San to Miyamura-kun, is a slice-of-life romantic comedy anime series. It is an adaptation of a web manga series of the same name by Hiroki Adachi, also known as Hero. CloverWorks took command of animating the first season of this show. The anime made its debut on January 10, 2021. It ran for a total of thirteen episodes before concluding on April 4 of the same year.
Is There Enough Source Material?
As previously mentioned, this romantic comedy is an anime adaptation of a manga series. Therefore, it is important for the production studio to have enough source material to create the storyline of the sequel. The serialization of this manga series began in October 2011 and ended in March 2021. Throughout its run of ten years, the author has published a total of 16 volumes. However, CloverWorks managed to compile the content of these 16 volumes in thirteen episodes only. They skipped several arcs of the manga series, including the renowned Valentine’s Day arc.
Horimiya ended on Chapter 122 of the manga series that featured the graduation day of Katagiri Senior High School students. Therefore, now the production studio has nothing left to create Horimiya Season 2. The studio has to create a new storyline or use the remaining chapters to make the plot of the second season.
Horimiya Season 2: Renewal Status
The debut season of Horimiya got a tremendous response from everyone. Everything about the series, including its storyline, characters, animation, OSTs were perfect. The anime series rose to popularity in no time and became one of the most romantic-comedy anime of all time. It got a lot of compliments from the experts and the otakus all around the world, and hence the ratings of this show were pretty great as well. At the time of writing, its MAL score is 8.21, and it is ranked at #307. On the other hand, the show has more than 783K members in its MyAnimeList group and is ranked at #147 in popularity on the same platform.
These numbers are certainly impressive and enough for any production studio. However, it might not happen in the case of this show. The first season ended on a conclusive note and adapted the ending of the manga as well. Hence, now it is very unlikely that they will ever renew Horimiya Season 2. But, there is a possibility that the makers might use the skipped chapters, especially the ones from the Valentine’s Day arc, to create a movie or some OVA episodes.
Horimiya Season 2: Release Date
Horimiya managed to stand out this Winter among the shows like Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan Final Season, Black Clover, and many other impressive shows. So, it kind of goes without saying that the producers would like to release the sequel in the same release window. However, it is still uncertain whether there is a sequel or not. But if it is on the cards, then Horimiya Season 2 might premiere in Winters 2023. We will update this section accordingly.
