There are some unfortunate characters who make the fans’ blood boil. From massacres to bullying and betrayals out of selfish acts, these characters represent the worst attributes of human nature. They also failed to amuse the audience due to their annoying nature or evil plans. Minoru Mineta (My Hero Academia)
First, on the list of Top 10 Most Hated Anime Characters is My Hero Academia‘s Minoru Mineta. He is also known as the U.A High’s biggest pervert. Though Mineta has his moments, he is one of the most hated anime characters. Fans hated him the most during the training camp arc. His determination and crafty ways to sneak up on the girls rubbed fans the wrong way. Another reason Mineta is hated is due to his behavior towards Todoroki. His attitude towards Todoroki hinted he wasn’t just a perv but arrogant too.
Nina Einstein (Code Geass)
There are many reasons Code Geass fans hate Nina. But the most problematic one is that she is xenophobic. Her cruel nature and narrow-minded attitude towards other races annoyed the viewers. Additionally, she killed millions of people and escaped the consequences. And tried to kill all her innocent classmates. Thus, Nina’s ignorance of the world and her erratic behavior make her one of the most hated characters.
Makoto Itou (School Days)
Another entry on the list is Makoto Itou from School Days. Makoto, like Mineta, is a pervert but on a whole other level. He longs for multiple women, not for love but their bodies. And he continues to break the hearts of innocent people and hurt them. He cheats on many girls and walks away as if nothing happened. Thus, Makoto is a problematic character who didn’t score many fans.
Danzo Shimura (Naruto)
Next on the list is one of the evilest characters in anime, Danzo Shimura. He is a selfish, violent man who killed innocent lives for personal gain. Danzo, in his blind belief, thought he was helping Konoha. But in reality, has caused many deaths and bloodshed. Danzo’s greed and selfishness cause the Uchiha Genocide. He is considered very unlikeable for destroying the world around him.
Sakura (Naruto)
Sakura Haruno from the famous Naruto universe is subject to much hate from the fans. This is as she is often insensitive to the others around her. There are many examples from the series which show her bullying and cold-hearted nature. One of the best examples is when she ditches Ino her true friend for Sasuke. Another is when she belittles Naruto for being an orphan. Furthermore, Sakura’s obsession over Sasuke, her ego, and selfishness make her anime’s most hated character.
Sugou Nobuyuki (Sword Art Online)
The list of the most hated anime characters wouldn’t be complete without Sugou Nobuyuki. Neither he nor his online persona, Fairy King Oberon, are acceptable. His behavior towards Asuna is a huge reason why the fairy king is hated so much. As seen when he takes advantage of Asuna’s coma state to get engaged with her. In addition, he is extremely lustful and sadistic. And takes pleasure from other people’s pain. Moreover, he loves toying with innocent people. And enslaves hundreds of SAO survivors to control the human mind for his research.
Malty Melromarc (The Rising of The Shield Hero)
Malty is nothing like her kind-hearted mother. Instead, she is arguably the worst character in anime history as she tried to kill her own sister. Most importantly, she lies, manipulates, and betrays Naofumi. Malty is extremely shallow and cold-hearted. She defames Naofumi and accuses him of assaulting her. Additionally, her blind hatred to ruin Naofumi makes her assassinate her sister. And record the whole incident to frame Naofumi with it. Malty doesn’t have any redeemable traits at all.
Shinji Ikari (Neon Genesis Evangelion)
Top 10 Most Hated Anime Characters: Shinji Ikari from Evangelion is not the typical anime hero archetype. The hate he gets is the most controversial and debated. As most of it is aimed at his mental health struggles. The majority of the fans see him as a coward who couldn’t rise to the action. Shinji is a very relatable character, but the audience wasn’t satisfied with his development. However, some of his actions are responsible for the hatred he gets. He gets easily manipulated and kills everyone at the end of the series.
Rachel (Tower Of God)
It is very hard not to hate Rachel. Rachel from Tower of God is another character who betrays the protagonist for her own desires. Bam loved Rachel and promised to take her up the tower. But, Rachel played nice until the end and then pushed him off for her own gain. In addition, she also lies to the other character to gain their support. Her jealousy and cold-hearted nature make her lose her biggest supporter. Her ambitious, selfish nature is what makes a lot of people hate her.
Shou Tucker (Fullmetal Alchemist)
Shou Tucker from Fullmetal Alchemist is first seen as a kind and struggling man. The audience immediately feels sorry for him and is sympathetic to him. That is until his malice is brought to light. Driven to madness from his failures, he does the most revolting experiment in the history of anime television. He fuses his young daughter Nina and her dog Alexander into a chimera to save his own skin. The breaking point is when he has no remorse but relief and pride over the experiment. As Edward tries to beat Shou, Nina intervenes and begs him to stop. Shou is put on house arrest but is killed by vigilante Scar.
