Worst Anime Of 2021

15 Worst Anime Of 2021: While it is true that 2021 brought some of the best stories of the last five years, it cannot be denied that many shows ranked in the low rating spots. From the first announcement to the former release, these shows proved to be a disappointment on all terms. While they were marketed as path-breaking and revolutionizing shows, nothing was translated on the screens. Fans might have a personalized list of the shows that did not stand up to the mark; this list has a unanimous review. So, without any further ado, here are all the anime that failed to impress audiences in 2021.

Yasuke

With banners like Netflix and Studio MAPPA involved with the business, Yasuke got more hype than it payed-off. On top of this, the companies promised a good story by casting some of the most renowned faces in the voice cast. However, when the series finally hit Netflix, it was nothing but a disappointment. With just six episodes on the catalog, there was no saving after the blunder of the fourth episode. The original story did have a strong messaging, which was missing from the anime.

Platinum End

Worst Anime Of 2021: Quoted as one of the most disappointing shows of 2021, Platinum End goes on to mess up the storyline more and more with each episode. With the first episode, the series delivered strong promise. But characters, subplots, and subtexts began to hop out of thin air. On top of this, the biggest criticism that the show got from manga fans was about the adaptation style. Fans complained that the makers veered from the original story in almost every episode.

Joran The Prince of Snow and Blood

Most historical stories end up getting caught in the same loop. A similar case followed Joran The Prince of Snow and Blood. Set in the early 1930s, Joran talks about a world that is surviving on the essence of Dragon Vein. However, a group of vigilantes wants to disrupt world peace. Thus, Nue is the group that is standing in its way to protect human life. While this story sounds and looks fantastic, the same did not translate on the screen. With bad execution, Joran counted as the worst anime of 2021.

Fena Pirate Princess

Another one of the shows that went downhill because of its uncanny and sloppy ending. There are numerous explainers over the internet that talk about what was wrong with the ending of the series. Along with the ending, even the pacing of the series was highly irregular. While some episodes chased the desired conclusion, others did not seem to end. And so, the unsatisfactory end to the Crunchyroll original killed the franchise once and for all.

Record Of Ragnarok

Worst Anime Of 2021: Record of Ragnarok is one anime that fans were hyped to see on the big screens. However, when the Studio Graphinica version of the story came out, the unanimous response was a disappointment. While there were a few errors in the writing and screenplay, it was the animation style that killed the gist of the series. On top of this, the anime was also caught up in controversy due to the questionable manner in which certain religious figures were depicted.

Farewell, My Dear Cramer

The reason why everyone looked up to Farewell, My Dear Cramer with high hopes is that it was written by the same artist who brought Your Lie In April to life. However, the original manga had a beautiful story to tell. What went wrong with the anime was the execution of the screenplay. The way that the manga handled as many characters, the anime failed to do so. What came out of Studio Liden Films was a sloppy sports story that everyone had already seen.

Boruto Naruto Next Generations

This might be a unanimous review from all of the viewers that BNNG was one of the worst anime of 2021. One of the biggest problems with the story, animation, and screenplay of Boruto Naruto Next Generations is that it is dull in every way. The writing is uninspired and shows Boruto as a flawless prodigal boy. On top of this, the never-ending cannon episodes killed the remains of the franchise.

The Dungeon of Black Company

Better known as Meikyuu Black Company, The Dungeon of Black Company managed to gain quite some criticism for its high-pitched storytelling. Much like other isekai, this one also dealt with multiple arcs. However, unlike the majority of them, this one could not manage them well. Another disappointment was the association of the Silver Link Studios with the project.

Cheat Pharmacist’s Slow Life: Making a Drugstore in Another World

Hitting the right note in a comedy story is keenly important. This is where Cheat Pharmacist’s Slow Life: Making a Drugstore in Another World fails. As suggested by the title, the premise and setup of the story are promising. However, the comedy failed to entertain even the over-excited fans. Also, the protagonist of the story ended up with next to no character development even at the end of the series.

The Way Of The Househusband

Another series that comes directly from the Netflix plethora is The Way Of The Househusband. With the premise giving center stage to a Yakuza member, the story was bound to be a hit. However, what followed was another uninspired and badly written story. Even the characters failed to follow a definitive arc that might bring a burst of laughter.

Otherside Picnic

Worst Anime Of 2021: When Otherside Picnic was initially announced, the trailers and announcements promised a romantic comedy story. However, once again, the execution of the story did not hit the mark. Let aside comic reliefs, the story was also devoid of any romance between the two leads. Overall, Otherside Picnic was a bland and flat delivery by Studio Liden Films. Thus, it can be considered one of the worst anime of 2021.

Beyblade Burst Gachi

Beyblade Burst Gachi turned out to be that show which tried to bank on nostalgia more than original storytelling. The story brought new characters, new settings, and new arcs with the same premise. It looked like new voice actors were placed in the same stencil that was created years ago. One year has gone by, and fans continue to believe that Gachi is one of the weakest works by Drum Koryu. For 2022, the fans are hoping to see redemption from this blunder.

Demon Slayer Mugen Train Arc

Mugen Train was nothing short of a disappointment in the Fall 2021 slate. There was no need for a new season for the movie in the first place. Even so, the makers thought of banking on the same project that had missed no household in 2020. So many people had already seen the show that people had no will to watch the split version of it again in 2021. And so, the half-baked project was called the worst anime of 2021.

The Promised Neverland Season 2

When the second season of The Promised Neverland came back to the screens, everyone had high hopes. However, there was only disappointment to get. The major problem with the sequel was the adaptation style. The second season did not adopt the same story as in the source material. As a result, the plot was neither completely original nor fully adapted from the manga.

Wonder Egg Priority

The final addition to this list is Wonder Egg Priority. The reason why the season was much-hyped was because of the ideas that it dealt with. From suicide to mental health to binary gender issues, there was so much going on in the series. However, none of these issues were dealt with the kind of sensitivity that they deserved. The makers are still looking to redeem the story with a special episode. However, fans are skeptical of that attempt.
