Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train premiered back in October 2020. Soon after the movie got released, fans were clamoring to know more about Demon Slayer Movie 2. Well, shortly after the series hit the big screen, it became one of the most popular movies in Japan. In fact, Demon Slayer returned with the second season soon after a year. However, fans want to know whether Demon Slayer Movie 2 is still on the cards? Let’s see!
Based on the shonen manga series of Koyoharu Gotouge’s Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, the movie follows the struggle of Tanjiro Kamado, his sister Nezuko, Inosuke Hashibira, and Zenitsu Agatsuma. They all board the Mugen Train to help Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku find the demon responsible for forty people’s disappearance. However, soon after boarding, they all fall into a deep sleep. So Enmu ordered people on the train to destroy their spiritual core, and he would grant them a peaceful sleep.
Demon Slayer Movie 2: Renewal
As of now, Ufotable, the animation company behind the movie, hasn’t revealed whether Demon Slayer will return with the second movie. Soon after the first film aired, the animation studio returned with the second season, an extended version of the film. There’s a possibility that the anime series will continue narrating the story through shows. So there’s little to no hope that Demon Slayer Movie 2 will return, at least not now.
But no need to fret. We can expect that the anime will soon return with the second movie. This is because the second season is already wrapped up, and the animation studio hasn’t revealed whether Tanjiro and the company will return with the third season or a sequel film. Considering it released the first movie after the first season, we can expect that Ufotable might return with Demon Slayer Movie 2.
Has Production Started?
Ufotable has been mum about the production status of Demon Slayer Movie 2. So there’s no clue when they will return to work on the sequel film. But it won’t take much time to return. This is because the animation takes ten to twelve months to wrap up production. So we can expect that it might take a year to announce the production details of the second movie.
Is There Source Material?
Fortunately, yes, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is based on a manga series by Koyoharu Gotouge. The anime was serialized in Shueisha’s shonen manga magazine from February 2016 to May 2020. It only has twenty-three tankobon volumes. Currently, only a fragment of the volume had narrated in the show as well as a movie. So there’s plenty of content left to explore.
Demon Slayer Movie 2: What Will Happen Next?
The upcoming movie might explore Swordsmith Village Arc. It will cover 100-127 chapters of the manga series. Tanjiro will head to Swordsmith Village to find a new weapon in the upcoming installment. The place is home to this weapon. But things won’t be that simple. There will be demons who might be guarding the sword.
Meanwhile, the second season finale showcased that Tengen is alive but in pain. He told Iguro that Tanjiro would be the replacement for Hashira. Now from there, they will strike on a new journey.
Demon Slayer Movie 2: Release Date
As mentioned above, the animation studio behind Demon Slayer has yet to renew the anime for the next movie or season. So it’s quite challenging to guess when the movie could return.
