It’s been six years since fans have waited for Natsume’s Book Of Friends Season 7. Well, this mystery-supernatural series has been popular since it emerged in 2003. Fans loved everything related to this series, and they even got a terrific six seasons. But now, even after six years, there is no season 7. For how long do fans have to wait for this series? Not anymore! This is because the anime’s creators have finally made an official announcement regarding the next season. So, is it happening? Natsume’s Book Of Friends, written and created by Yuki Midorikawa, first appeared in 2023 as a manga series. Later, in 2008, the series got an anime adaptation, and to this date, there are 74 episodes. No doubt, Natsume’s Book Of Friends is a fantastic series. When it first dropped, nobody expected it to be this amazing. This series is globally famous, and fans want to know when season 7 is coming. But don’t fret. Natsume’s Book Of Friends Season 7 Is Finally Renewed!

Natsume’s Book of Friends Season 7 has finally been renewed, much to the delight of avid fans worldwide. This captivating anime series, based on Yuki Midorikawa’s manga, has amassed a dedicated following over the years for its heartfelt storytelling and stunning visuals.

On the 15th Anniversary of the series, a special interview was released on the official site of Natsume’s Book Of Friends. In that interview, it was mentioned Natsume’s Book Of Friends Season 7 is officially in production. Well, this series is derived in different parts. As of now, there are six seasons with 72 episodes available to watch on Crunchyroll.

In fact, there is a movie called Natsume’s Book of Friends: Ephemeral Bond and another movie called Natsume’s Book of Friends: The Waking Rock And The Strange Visitor. Two original video animations were also released. Since the show has been renewed, fans might get more movies or OVA in the future after the release of 7th season. But for now, fans have to wait for other official updates.

Which Studio Animated Natsume’s Book Of Friends?

Well, two different studios have animated this series. Brain’s Base animated the first four seasons. It is a renowned Japanese animation studio that has gained a loyal fan following with its unique and visually stunning works.

Founded in 1996, the studio has produced a wide range of anime series and movies known for their exceptional storytelling, beautiful artwork, and captivating characters. Some of their most popular animations are Durarara, Baccano, Blood Lad, My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU, My Little Monster, and many more.

Meanwhile, Studio Shuka has animated Natsume’s Book Of Friends Seasons 5 and 6. Shuka is a Japanese animation studio known for producing high-quality and visually stunning anime series. Founded in 2013, this studio was founded by the previous staff members of Brain’s Base.

Both studios are interrelated; that’s why they have worked on the same series but in different seasons. Some of their most popular anime are 91 Days and Durarara!!x2. It has also been confirmed that Shuka will animate Natsume’s Book Of Friends Season 7. 

Is There Enough Source Material?

Of course, yes! Natsume’s Book Of Friends, written by Yuki Midorikawa, started in 2003 and is still ongoing. As of July 2023, there are 29 original manga volumes. While Hakusensha is the original publisher of the manga, Viz Media serves as the English publisher of the manga series.

It’s been 20 years, and the manga is still going strong. It is even considered one of the best manga ever created. In fact, Natsume’s Book Of Friends manga has been charted #1 in Japan several times and has been in the top 10 and 15 many times.

Speaking of the anime, it has adapted 20 volumes of the manga, that is, till chapter 79. If fans don’t want to wait for the anime, they can start reading the manga from chapter 80. There is still enough source material for two more seasons, considering the current status of the manga. And since the manga is ongoing, there is a chance in the future, there will be more material for more seasons.

Natsume’s Book Of Friends Season 7: Plot 

Natsume’s Book Of Friends is an anime series that revolves around the life of Takashi Natsume, a teenager who can see and interact with spirits. Orphaned at a young age, Natsume inherits his grandmother Reiko’s “Book of Friends,” a robust collection of names that bind spirits to their possessor.

Throughout the series, Natsume carries on Reiko’s legacy by returning these spirits’ names to them to set them free. The main plotline explores Natsume’s journey of self-discovery as he navigates between the human and spirit world. His encounters with different spirits provide profound insights into their lives, struggles, and desires while also highlighting the emotional depth and growth of Natsume himself.

As he continues his mission alongside his feline spirit companion, Madara or Nyanko-sensei, Natsume uncovers hidden secrets about his grandmother’s past and gradually learns to embrace his supernatural abilities, finding solace in forming genuine connections with humans and spirits.

In the very last episode of the series, fans saw Natsume share his secret with Natori after searching the Hadazaki mansion. They discover scrolls with powerful spells and charms to eliminate evil spirits. A dragon named Shiki tells Natsume about a super strong Natsume Reiko and her Book of Friends. Natori fears the book is dangerous, but Natsume remains curious. The season ends with the Book of Friends sitting on Natsume’s desk. As for the next season, Natsume’s Book Of Friends Season 7 will continue with Natsume unearthing the mystery behind the scrolls.

Even though Natsume’s Book Of Friends Season 7 has been officially renewed, there is no official release date. An anime takes an average of 1 year to wrap up production. Hence, fans can expect the show to be released in Summer 2024. For now, it’s a relief that the show is officially in production after six years.
