As the anime celebrates its fourth anniversary, fans become more anxious for Qualidea Code Season 2. Ever since the first season ended, viewers began to demand more content. While the demand is still high, Studio A-1 Pictures is yet to wave the green flag. Will it ever release? What’s in the future of this supernatural anime? Here’s everything you need to know about it.
Qualidea Code is a Japanese multimedia project originally developed by Marvelous and a three-person unit of writers known as Speakeasy. In 2015, they launched it with several light novel series written by different writers of Speakeasy. A while later, in December 2016, a manga adaptation series began serialization in Shueisha’s Jump Square magazine. On the other hand, popular animation studio A-1 Pictures picked up the anime adaptation that aired in Japan between July and September 2016.
Qualidea Code Season 2: Renewal Updates
For the last four years, fans have been waiting for Qualidea Season 2. However, A-1 Pictures is yet to confirm the sequel. Well, one of the main reasons why the studio won’t renew the anime is Season 1’s poor performance. The first installment was a commercial failure and did not sell as well as the creators expected. Moreover, neither did it influence the sales of its source material as much as it should’ve.
On the other hand, half of its viewers rated the first season relatively low. In fact, both critic and audience ratings on platforms like IMDb and MyAnimeList are below average (6.1/10 and 6.5/10, respectively). Hence, Qualidea Code could not make an impression good enough to get a renewal. Thus, chances for its return are not very likely.
Moreover, the future of anime adaptations depends upon the existence of their source material. They usually act as mere advertisements for their respective light novels, manga series, or video games. Hence, they only survive as long as they have content to promote. Unfortunately, in this case, the Qualidea Code light novel series and manga adaptation have both ended. Therefore, in lack of any running source material, Qualidea Code Season 2 might not get a renewal. Well, if fans still want more episodes, they can sign petitions in support of the second season. They can also try to convince the creators through social media posts.
Is There Enough Source Material For A New Season?
Another constituent that plays a significant role in any anime’s renewal is the amount of source material left for adaptation. The first season of Qualidea Code has already covered most of the content available through the light novels. Hence, the second season now has little to no source material left. Sadly, this further decreases the chances of its return.
Qualidea Code Season 2: Release Date
A-1 Pictures currently has no plans to produce Qualidea Code Season 2. However, even if they decide to renew it, the installment may take a few years to premiere. As of now, a 2022 release date seems the most likely. We will update this section with the official date once it comes out.
