Black Lagoon Season 4: Will The Anime Return In 2022?

The fans have been eagerly waiting for Black Lagoon Season 4 for the past seven years. They are pretty disappointed that they are not getting the following installments of the great series. It is one of those shows whose English dub became more famous than its original sound. The show is very refreshing as it didn’t feature typical Shonen action sequences. So, will there be a fourth installment of the anime? Here are all the latest details. 

Black Lagoon is a Japanese anime series. It is the remake of the action manga series of the same name by Rei Hiroe. Madhouse Studio adapted the story of this manga into an anime that premiered on April 9, 2006. The studio has released three seasons of the anime so far, along with several OVA episodes. However, its third installment only has five episodes. As a result, fans are getting desperate to see more of it.

It is one of the most popular anime shows of recent times. It received a tremendous response from the fans and the critics alike upon its arrival. However, the anime has its own flaws as well. The animation quality at some points is quite low, and there are several fan services between action sequences, and some viewers often find it irritating. Except for that, everything about that show is positive. As a result, it developed a huge fan following within a short period of time, and they are still waiting to see its fourth season. 

Despite being one of the most popular shows of its time, Black Lagoon is yet to get the green flag for its fourth season. Madhouse Studio or any other producers of the show have neither renewed nor canceled it for its future installments. However, after waiting for seven years, fans have begun to ask some serious questions about the show’s future. 

Is There Enough Source Material? 

The serialization of Black Lagoon’s manga series began way back in 2002. And the great thing is that the manga is still running, but it is currently on a hiatus. In the past 19 years, the author has only published a total of 11 volumes that have more than 100 chapters. The first three seasons of the anime series have already adopted the chapters till the ninth volume of the manga series. Therefore, to create Black Lagoon Season 4, Madhouse Studio has only two volumes which are definitely not enough. In order to create Black Lagoon Season 4, the makers will need at least one more volume.

All three seasons of the anime series met with a positive critical response, and aside from that, its viewership was also great. It holds a great score of 8.05 and ranked #135 in popularity on MAL. Despite all that, fans never got to see the fourth season of the anime series. The main reason behind the delay is the lack of its source material. Plus, the seven-year hiatus of the anime has also become a matter of concern. Therefore, the chance for Black Lagoon Season 4 is not very great now. Hence, fans have to wait until mangaka Rei Hiroe launches Volume 12 of his masterpiece.
