What Happened To The Titans?
Eren’s decision to use Rumbling and eliminate 80% of all humans was a conscious choice. He knew that this was the only choice he had that would end the Titans. So, when Armin asks about the same, he tells him that he had to use Rumbling. Then, he took him to a vision where the lands were filled with volcanic eruptions and deads laying all around. He explains that because Ymir was obeying the orders of King Fritz for more than two thousand years, the power of the Titans continued to fester.

What Were Eren’s Motivations?
Ever since the beginning of the story, Eren’s only motivation has been to bring freedom to the world from the fear of Titans. And just as he had said, he did it by the end of the story. As for Mikasa, her character arc also came to a close when she fought Eren. Her slashing Eren’s throat was symbolic of Mikasa overcoming the blind love that she had for Eren.
