Barakamon is a Japanese fantasy anime series. It adapts its storyline from the manga series of the same title by Satsuki Yoshino. The anime made its debut on July 6, 2014, and ran for 12 episodes. It aired its last episode on September 27 of the same year. Two years later, the makers released a spin-off series titled Handa-Kun, which is said to be the predecessor of the original anime.
Barakamon Season 2: Renewal Status!
Kinema Citrus produced the debut season of the anime series. It got a positive response from the viewers as well as the critics. However, the makers showed more interest in the spin-off series than the original anime. As a result, after two years, when they should be releasing Barkamon Season 2, they released Handa-Kun Season 2.
The fans didn’t complain since, at that time, Kinema Citrus doesn’t have enough source material to produce another season of the anime. But they never released any statement concerning the future of the anime series. They didn’t renew or cancel it officially. It has been six years, and the fans are still waiting to hear from them regarding the fate of their favorite anime.
Will The Anime Ever Return?
Both the original anime and its spin-off got a good response and were popular at the time of their release. The studio also planned to release more seasons of it as there are still a lot of stories left to tell. Satsuki Yoshino published the last 18th volume back in 2018, four years after the completion of the anime. And that means Kinema Citrus Studio now has more than enough source material to make Barakamon Season 2. However, the studio is quite busy nowadays and revealed its production pipeline for next year.
However, it is unlikely for them to pick the anime series again after six years. Most of its fans already believed that it wouldn’t return. And its popularity also decreased with a great margin. Therefore, now the decision will totally depend on the studio. So, fans can only hope that they will pick Barakamon for its second season.
